I finally caved into the Kylie Cosmetics hype. I purchased two of her lip kits in the shades Ginger and Maliboo, which are both new this summer. If I was going to spend $9 for shipping, I wanted to get shades I really like and don’t already have something similar to. Let’s get into the review!

Packaging and Presentation

To begin, the packaging is just fantastic. She really nailed it with this. It’s so chic. I’m keeping the boxes because they are just too cute. I love that the colors correspond with the lip kit shades. It also comes with a card with the logo on one side and a note on the other. I think I’ll frame the card and use it as decor in my room! The handwritten note is also a nice touch. It makes Kylie look caring and proud of what she’s created. For packaging and presentation Kylie Cosmetics gets a 5/5!

Shades

As I mentioned, I purchased both Maliboo and Ginger. Each lip kit comes with a liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner. There are swatches pictured above but these two colors look extremely different depending on lighting. Ginger is an warm orange-brown shade. It’s really unique. In the top photo above it is  the shade to the right and on the bottom it is the shade on the top. As you can see the different lighting effects how it looks. Either way I love the shade and think it will be gorgeous for fall! Maliboo is a cool toned grey-brown color. In some lighty it even looks pinky-nude. It’s strange I know but it is so flattering on the lips.

My lighting this day was super yellow so I inserted some pictures above of Kylie in the shades as well. Personally, I love the shades. Nudes are my favorite and These are both very wearable so 5/5 on the shades!

Formula

Now for the most important part, the formula. For the lip liners, the formula is incredible. They are extremely creamy and glide on the lips like a dream. My only complaint is they need to be sharpened which can be a pain. The lipsticks however I find to be very drying, even more so than ColourPop’s. I do personally have really dry lips/skin so there is that but the formula almost looks glossy on some of Kylie’s pictures and that is not the case. At least not the lipstick alone. I highly recommend moisturizing and using the lip liner before applying. On the bright side, these things do. not. budge. They will last through a hurricane. This is a photo after applying make up wipes and thoroughly washing my arm. It also does not transfer which is a plus for me. I give the formula all together 4/5

Price

Everyone’s biggest concern..how much do they cost? Each lip kit is $29, however some shades can be purchased as separates. In this case the liquid lipsticks are $17 and the lip liners are $14. So you actually save a couple dollars by buying the kit. This is an extremely fair price for a liquid lipstick. In fact it is more affordable than many of the “high end” brands you find at Sephora. The one cost that drives me nuts is the $8.95 shipping fee. I just couldn’t get past it for the longest time. That is just domestic shipping. Hopefully as time goes on the costs will be brought down. For that reason pricing is 4/5.

Availability

The availability for Kylie Cosmetics products has actually improved immensely. Restocks are occurring much more often and the original lip kit colors are pretty easily accessible. However limited edition and new products are gone in seconds.  This is not exactly Kylie’s fault, I mean there are hundreds of thousands of people on her website during launches but it can be very frustrating for customers. Availability is probably the biggest downer for me. I rate it a 3.5/5.

Overall I give the Kylie Lip Kits a 4/5 which is more than I expected. I was expecting them to be all hype but there is some great quality there and for a fair price. I think the lip kits are worth the hype afterLet me know what shades you have and what you think of them in the comments!
